Schiff Prostate Health Formula

Schiff® Prostate Health is a combination formula designed to maintain healthy prostate glands. Schiff ® Prostate Health contains Lycopene, the red color compound of tomatoes; standardized Saw Palmetto extract; 100% of the Daily Value for zinc and selenium (two minerals with affinity for the prostate); 100% of the Daily Value for Vitamin D and Copper; and Calcium D-Glucarate. All minerals are in organic chelate forms, similar to forms found in foods.

Schiff® uses a supercritical fluid extract (CO2) method to concentrate the lipid fractions of Saw Palmetto berries without use of harsh solvents. Lipid extracts of Saw Palmetto berries have been standardized to free fatty acid content, although the actual active components are still under investigation. Saw Palmetto lipid extracts help support healthy prostate function, including during normal aging. Saw Palmetto lipid extracts may support prostate health by antispasmodic actions and supporting healthy metabolism of hormones in the prostate gland itself.

Lycopene is a dark red carotenoid related to beta carotene mostly found in tomatoes, watermelon, pink guavas, pink grapefruit and apricots. Lycopene is a potent antioxidant that protects cell membranes and DNA from oxidation. Lycopene helps to maintain healthy prostate tissue during normal aging.

Selenium is an essential trace element with a pimary function of activating the major intracellular antioxidant enzyme ? glutathione peroxidase. Selenium supports healthy prostate tissue during normal aging. Selenium also works with Vitamin E as an antioxidant. Schiff® Prostate Health uses SelenoExcell yeast selenium, the form chosen to conduct long-term human research studies.

Maintenance of adequate Vitamin D status appears very important for maintenance of prostate health during normal aging.

Prostate glands have the highest concentration of zinc in the body. Normal zinc levels in prostate tissue inhibit cellular energy production by inhibiting the utilization of citrate in the TCA cycle (inhibition of m-aconitase enzyme). Less prostate cell energy means healthy production of hormone metabolites. Maintenance of normally high levels of zinc in prostate tissue supports healthy prostate function. Zinc also counteracts damaging effects of cadmium (a toxic heavy metal) on prostate tissue. Zinc is balanced with copper.

Calcium D-glucarate, a nutrient found in fruits, vegetables and human bodies, has been shown to operate in the body?s major cleansing pathway, glucuronidation, which helps to remove unwanted compounds.
