Eleuthero (Eleutherococcus senticosus) is not a true Panax ginseng, but a cousin of ginseng that grows in Siberia. Siberian ginseng is highly valued for its adaptogenic abilities and its strength and endurance enchancing properties. Eleuthero first became popularduring the 1970s when the Russian Olympic team used it as a supplement to their rigorous training schedule. Russian cosmonauts also used it during the 1970s for coping with stress and change. The active ingredients of Eleuthero are eleutherocides, unlike the ginsenosides that are present in true ginsengs.
