Heart health continues to be a leading area of concern in the U.S., affecting
both men and women. In fact, an estimated 1.2 million Americans will experience
a new or recurring coronary heart attack in 2005. To help support heart health,
Twinlab introduces Cardio Krill Oil a unique formula containing
clinically proven NKO™ krill oil:
• Regulates blood lipids already within desired levels.
• Contains B vitamins: B6, B12, and folic acid that research has shown
can help maintain healthy homocysteine levels; a factor in heart health.
• Helps maintain cholesterol levels that are already within the normal
range, while possibly reducing the risk of Coronary Heart Disease (CHD).
What are Krill and where to they come from?
Krill are small shrimp-like crustaceans that can be found in all of the world’s
oceans; however the greatest proportion exists in Antarctic waters. Antarctic
krill (also known as Euphausia superba) is so plentiful; in fact, it is thought
to be one of the most abundant animal species on the planet. The Antarctic female
krill can lay up to 10,000 eggs at a time; sometimes several times a season.
What are the active ingredients in Krill and what benefits do they
provide?
Considered a delicacy and source of protein by the Japanese, krill offer various
essential nutrients including omega-3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA)
and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), along with natural antioxidants (vitamin A and
E, astaxanthin, and “novel marine-source” flavonoids).
Scientists have discovered that the Antarctic krill’s phospholipids (key
“protective” component of the cell membrane that contains fatty
acids) have a higher concentration of omega-3 EPA and DHA than other krill as
found in the Pacific. Antarctic krill’s high fatty acid profile closely
resembles that of the human brain’s own phospholipids, therefore it is
more easily recognized by the body.
More recent breakthrough scientific evidence indicates that the Antarctic krill
oil, as found in Neptune Krill Oil (NKO™), may provide exceptional benefits
because of its phospholipids with uniquely high content of omega-3 EPA and DHA
and its potent antioxidant activity (48 times higher than fish oils). These
benefits include regulating blood lipids (fats and fatlike substances such as
cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood) already within desired levels and
relieving the symptoms associated with PMS. Other preliminary research indicates
that NKO™ krill oil may be beneficial to joint health – offering
support for sore and stiff joints.
Are all Krill Oils the same?
Twinlab Krill Essentials™ are formulated with specific, clinically-proven
amounts of NKO™ krill oil that has been extracted with a patented cold-vacuum
process. When other krill oil is exposed to heat or air their natural bonds
are destroyed which diminishes its phospholipids and antioxidant value. NKO™
krill oil’s proprietary extraction process preserves the krill’s
essential fats (EPA and DHA) and potent antioxidants (astaxanthin and “marine-source”
flavonoids) in their natural form, thus being more readily available for utilization
by the body.
Twinlab Krill Oil formulas are harvested, processed and tested
to be free of PCB and heavy metals. And since NKO™ maintains its inherent
potent antioxidants which help to sustain maximum stability of the oil from
oxidation – you can expect reduced incidence of “fishy repeats”
(burp-ups).
